Theatre - Tisbury stars

Posted January 31, 2008

The Fourth Grade Theater Project continues this weekend when the Tisbury School students take the stage at the Vineyard Playhouse.

On Saturday, Feb. 2, at 3 pm and again at 7 pm, two plays will be presented. Pam Herman's class will perform "The Duck, the Wizard, and the Piano," and Veronika VandeGeer's class will do "Blind Vision." Both plays are contemporary and focus on issues of accepting and celebrating different abilities.

Student actors are: Megan Piche, Elissa DeCosta, Jordan Barbosa, Mya Houston, Rodrigo Rego, Jacob King, Maxwell Santos, Ellie O'Callaghan, Casey McAndrews and Karem Guimares.

The plays will be the finale of an 11-week program, which is part of the school's curriculum. MJ Bruder Munafo and Georgia Morris began the program 14 years ago to give students a hands-on theatre experience. Ms. Munafo, the Vineyard Playhouse artistic director, notes the generosity of grants from Comcast, the Martha's Vineyard Cultural Council, the Sharp-Curtis Foundation, as well as local businesses, which provide additional support.

Tisbury School fourth-grade plays, Saturday, Feb. 2, 3 pm and 7 pm, Vineyard Playhouse, 24 Church Street, Vineyard Haven. Tickets: $6 for adults, $4 for children and are available at the door. For more information, call 508-696-6300 or visit vineyardplayhouse.org.
