White Ribbon Day
As a result of the Montreal Massacre in 1989, when 14 women engineering students were killed by an enraged gunman, White Ribbon Day was founded and launched in Canada by Jane Doe Inc. and The Men's Initiative. Now, this Valentine's Day, Martha's Vineyard Community Services Women's Support Services is taking part in the first statewide event. Their goal is to add 500 names to the worldwide campaign by Feb. 14. The purpose of the petition is to promise never to commit or condone violence against women, nor to remain silent about violence. To sign the petition, contact Aita Romain of Women's Support Services at 508-693-7900 ext. 218 or e-mail aromain@mvcommunity services.com.
