Once again the Tisbury School took some short cuts to help people in need. Six students and five members of the staff cut their long hair and donated it to the Locks of Love organization. This is the second year in a row members of the Tisbury School have made such a generous gesture, and for the second time, Panache Hair Studio in West Tisbury donated their services. The donors got their new looks at Panache on Feb. 18.
Locks of Love is a non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children who suffer from medical hair loss. The relatively young organization gained non-profit status in Dec. 1997. Since then it has helped more than 2,000 young people in the United States and Canada.
On Feb. 19, the donors walked to the Tisbury Post Office to mail their locks to the organization. On the way back to school the group stopped at Mocha Mott's on Main Street in Vineyard Haven for hot chocolate. The teachers made bracelets (with beads from Beadniks) and presented them to each donor. These generous people know the true meaning of "a good hair day."
