Call for flea market vendors
Organizers of a yard sale and flea market, to be held at the Wampanoag Tribal Building in Aquinnah on Sunday, Sept. 14, from 10 am to 3 pm, are still looking for vendors. If you are interested, call Joe at 508-645-2338, or Betty at 645-3340, by Sept. 12.
Applications welcome
The Permanent Endowment for Martha's Vineyard is accepting applications for its fall grant cycle. The Endowment welcomes inquiries from Island nonprofit organizations seeking funding for programs and initiatives that will benefit the Vineyard community. In the past, the Endowment has provided support for arts and culture, civic affairs and community development, education, the elderly, the environment, health, and youth. All applications must be postmarked by Sept. 15 and applicants will be notified of grant awards in October.
CROP planning
The annual CROP Walk of Martha's Vineyard is approaching, and organizers are having a meeting for anyone interested in participating or contributing on Sunday, Sept. 7, at 5 pm. At the Grace Church in Vineyard Haven, hear from guest speaker Bert Marshall, executive director of the Northern New England Church World Service, and learn details about the walk, to be held here on Oct. 19. Winter plans
If you're interested in learning figure skating this winter, the Martha's Vineyard Figure Skating Club is holding its fall registration on Tuesday, Sept. 9 and Thursday, Sept. 11, from 6 to 7 pm at the Martha's Vineyard Arena in Oak Bluffs. Barack 'N Roll
This Sunday, Sept. 7, at 5 pm, Brent Alberghini is hosting a fundraiser for the Barack Obama Campaign and the Democratic National Committee. Performances by Island personalities include Sabrina Luening and her brother Erich, Corrine DeLangavant, Evan Hall and dancers, Mike Martin, and more. The suggested donation is $20, and the event is at The Crystal Palace, located on 45 Pequot Avenue in Oak Bluffs. Doors open at 4 pm; BYOB; food will be served. Book party
The Aquinnah Public Library Summer Celebration, held on the afternoon of Saturday, August 30, offered attendees fine music, a range of activities, and of course, an abundance of secondhand books.
