WIMP rendezvous for Elza Minor
Elza Minor is an Island actor with a golden voice and a magical stage presence. He has recently run into a medical snag and some of his thespian buddies in the WIMP improv group decided to help him out. With the inspiration and organization of Alexandra London-Thompson, a friend of Mr. Minor, they banded together Tuesday, August 26, for an evening of laughs and good times at the Union Chapel in Oak Bluffs.
Mr. Minor is a former member of the troupe. He and many of the original members have gone on to other things, and this was an opportunity for the group to reassemble, according to longtime WIMP stalwart Jamie Alley. They brought back many of their well-crafted routines, including a scene from their long-running hit series "Troubled Shores," an improvised soap opera spoof based not so loosely on the Island, its institutions and characters. The audience, asked for suggestions throughout the evening to spark the improvisational routines, was often in stitches as the group played off of Island themes as they brought those suggestions to life.
WIMP has inspired the creation of IMP, an improv-based summer theater program for kids, and several IMP members also participated in the fundraiser.
