It was smooth sailing on Tuesday evening when close to 40 members of the Martha's Vineyard Big Brothers, Big Sisters, a youth mentoring program, were invited aboard the historic schooner, Alabama. As guests of the Black Dog Tall Ships, the volunteers and their charges enjoyed a sail out of Vineyard Haven harbor and between the chops. The trip has been offered for the past four years. The children were able to participate in such activities as hoisting the sails and even taking a turn at the wheel.

Alabama's Captain Morgan Douglas noted his company's long association with the Big Brothers, Big Sisters program and its commitment to Island children who might otherwise not have the opportunity to have the experience of sailing.
