Next week is the Fair: our fair is the Island party. My favorites are the kids’ entries and of course the quilts. Kids put together scenes of wonderful vegetables, artworks, and imaginative creations. Even little kids complete entries that will astonish you. Be sure to see the efforts of the next generation: I guarantee you will be impressed.
How can anyone think bicycles don’t have the same rights as cars on our roads? The moped riders have these rights, too. Owning a vehicle does not give you the right to be the only one on the road. If you find these people slow you down, you should have left home earlier. Your being late is not their fault.

Many thanks to our brave firefighters who keep our town safe. The dark plume of smoke over our town on Sunday afternoon drew many comments. We are grateful that it was taken care of by our wonderful firemen. Celebrate the Glorious Fourth on Main Street at 2 pm. In 1963 a proclamation by President Kennedy […]
We were sorry to learn of the passing of Lois Remmer in her 96th year, after spending nearly half her life on the Island. She touched the lives of many in her classes at Nathan Mayhew Seminars and a number of other writing and reading groups here. She loved books and writing and was editing […]
Congratulations to our very own Tad Gold! How wonderful is that news. First, we’ve had the pleasure of watching him play for the Sharks for the past three years, the only Islander on the team. And now – he has been drafted by the Baltimore Orioles. What a guy. We do wish him the best. […]
Updated information: The Bloomsday celebration is this Monday. As I drove north last Thursday on Route 495 in the pouring rain, a tree jumped out into the road and hit my car. The tree had been riding in the back of an open pickup truck and suddenly flew through the air and landed on the […]
