At the Edgartown Bridge Club on Monday September 22, ten tables were in play.  North-South winners were Gail Farrish and Warren Morse, followed by Al Shrive and Barbara Besse in second, Art Spielvogel and Bob Franklin in third, and Sue Collinson and Penny Guest in fourth. Finishing in first place East-West were Carol Whitmarsh and Judy Balph, Barbara Silk and Deirdre Ling, followed by Mollie Whalen and Joe Ashcroft in second, George and Isabel Shattuck in third, and Molly Mattoon and Judy Cronig in fourth.

At the Martha’s Vineyard Bridge Club on Tuesday September 23, fifteen pairs competed in an International Fund Game. Overall winners were Barbara Besse and Sandy Lindheimer, followed by David Donald and Michel Riel in second, Miles Jaffe and Sue Collinson in third, Mariann Farrelly and Bernadine Lacy in fourth, and Robert and Ency Fokos in fifth. Also placing were  Susan Sadler and Sally Fitzgerald in sixth place.

At the Island Bridge Club in West Tisbury on Thursday September 25, fifteen pairs competed.  Finishing in first place overall were Mollie Whalen and Joe Ashcroft, followed by Dan and Nancy Cabot in second, Al Shrive and Charlie Harff in third, Sandy and Michael Lindheimer in fourth, Barbara Besse and Miles Jaffe in fifth, and Deirdre Ling and Don Nelson in sixth.

Finishing in first place East-West were Barbara Silk and Deirdre Ling, followed by Mollie Whalen and Joe Ashcroft in second, George and Isabel Shattuck in third, and Molly Mattoon and Judy Cronig in fourth.  The Edgartown Bridge Club has moved back to the Edgartown Yacht Club until next summer.  The game will start promptly at 12:30.

At the Martha’s Vineyard Bridge Club on Tuesday September 16, seven tables were in play for an International Fund Game. Overall winners were Barbara Besse and Miles Jaffe, followed by Charlie Harff and Gail Farrish in second, Nancy Neil and Sue Collinson in third, Andrew Jacknain and John O’Keefe in fourth, and Kathy and Peter Clay in fifth.  Also placing in the were Cheryl Neal and Dotti Arnold in sixth place.

North-South winners were Sari Lipkin and Carol Whitmarsh, followed by Elizabeth Kros and Joe Phillips in second, and Ency and Robert Fokos in third. Finishing in first place East-West were Duncan Walton and Richard Eubanks, followed by Jim Kaplan and Brooks Robards in second, and Judy Maynes and Sandy Berner in third.  Also finishing first in Section B North-South were Eric Stricoff and Rhonda Cohen, followed by Cheryl Neal and Dotti Arnold in second. Also finishing in first place in Section C East-West were Judy Cronig and Molly Mattoon, followed by Barbara Pigott and Pat Devaney in second.

First place overall went to Joe Ashcroft and Mollie Whalen, followed by David Donald and Rich Alpert in second, Sandy and Michael Lindheimer in third, and Barbara Silk and Bea Phear in fourth. Tied for fifth place overall were Ed Russell and Deirdre Ling and Michael Lipkin and Anita Lee. Also, finishing fourth in the North South direction were Barbara Besse and Miles Jaffe. Also placing fourth in the East-West direction were Anita Persson and Marianne Goldsmith.

At the Bridge Club of Martha’s Vineyard on Saturday August 30, six tables were in play.  Finishing first North-South were Colleen Moore and Paul Howes, followed by Art Spielberg and Robert Franklin in second. East-West winners were Brook Robards and Jim Kaplan, followed by Dotti Arnold and Cheryl Neal in second.

Finishing first overall were Bea Phear and Nancy Neil, followed by Barbara Besse and Sandy Lindheimer in second, Barbara McLagan and Rich Alpert in third, Michael Lindheimer and Bob Iadicicco in fourth, and John O’Keefe and Andrew Jacknain in fifth.  Also placing in the North-South direction were Sari Lipkin and Carol Whitmarsh in second place, Gerry Averill and Anita Persson in third, and Eric Stricoff and Rhonda Cohen in fourth.

At the Island Bridge Club in West Tisbury on Thursday August 21, seven tables were in play. In the North-South direction Ed Russell and Deirdre Ling finished first, followed by Bob Henry and Barbara Besse in second, and Foster Osborne and Charlie Harff in third.  East-West winners were Sandy and Michael Lindheimer, followed by Gerry Averill and Pamela Furtsch in second, and Carol Whitmarsh and Sari Lipkin in third.

At the Bridge Club of Martha’s Vineyard on Saturday August 23, seven tables were in play.  Finishing first North-South were Duncan Walton and Ann Brown, followed by Eric Stricoff and Rhonda Cohen in second, and Charity Randolph and Calvin Bass in third. East-West winners were Brook Robards and Jim Kaplan, followed by Hester Boxill and Charleyne Roberts-Hayden in second, and Tillie Foster and Emily Robertson in third.

At the Edgartown Bridge Club at the Howes House on Monday, August 11, 11 tables were in play in a stratified pair game. North-South winners in Section C were Paul Howes and Bill Cline, who also placed second in Section B. Duncan Walton and Robert Pacil placed first in Section B, as well as second in Section A. Finishing in first for Section A were Barbara Besse and Andy Averill. Third place in Section A went to Jim Kaplan and Brooks Robards, and  fourth place was taken by Sandy and Michael Lindheimer. East-West winners in Section C were Louise Marx and Jerri Grannis, who also took first place in Section A. Finishing in second place Section C were Abe Seiman and Vicki Aldeborgh, who also finished third in Section A. Judy Cronig and Molly Mattoon finished third in Section C and fourth in Section A.  Second place in Section A went to Judy Maynes and Rich Peia.

At the Martha’s Vineyard Bridge Club on Tuesday, August 12, eight tables were in play.

Finishing first in the North-South direction were Michael Lindheimer and Bob Iadicicco, followed by Proctor Smith and David Donald in second, and Barbara Besse and Sandy Lindheimer in third. In the East-West direction, Barbara McLagan and Rich Alpert finished first, followed by John O’Keefe and Andrew Jacknain in second, and Sari Lipkin and Carol Whitmarsh in third.

At the Island Bridge Club in West Tisbury on Thursday, August 14, nine tables were in play.  In the North-South direction three pairs tied for first: Barbara Besse and Miles Jaffe, Sandy and Michael Lindheimer, and Bea Phear and Barbara Silk. Tied for fourth place were Joan Perrine and Diana Dozier and Gerry Averill and Nancy Neil. At the Edgartown Bridge Club at Howes House on Monday, August 4,10 tables were in play in a stratified pair game, in which pairs are divided according to skill level in competing for ACBL master points. Section A is the top section, followed by Section B, and Section C. Players at all levels play against all the other players. Section A players can only win master points in section A, as their scores are compared to other A players. Section B players can win points in section B and A, as their scores are compared to B players as well as A players. Section C players may win points in all sections.

North-South winners in Section A were Gerry Averill and Diana Dozier, followed by Jim Kaplan and Bob Henry in second, and Eric Stricoff and Rhonda Cohen in third. Duncan Walton and Richard Eubanks finished fourth in Section A and first in section B. East-West winners were Andrew Jacknain and John O’Keefe, Section B players who took first place in Section A and Section B. Carol Flynn and Kevin Carey finished first in Section C, second in Section B, and second in Section A. Ann Brown and Audrey Egger, both A players, finished third East-West, and Judy Maynes and Barbara Kummel took second in Section C, 3rd in Section B, and fourth East-West in Section A.

Finishing first overall were Barbara Besse and Sandy Lindheimer, followed by Sue Collinson and John O’Keefe in second, Barbara McLagan and Rich Alpert in third, Eric Stricoff and Rhonda Cohen in fourth, Gail Farrish and Warren Morse in fifth, and Bob Henry and Jim Kaplan in sixth. Also finishing were Audrey Egger and Miles Jaffe in seventh and Ann Brown and Lew Finkel in eighth.

At the Island Bridge Club in West Tisbury on Thursday August 7, eight tables were in play.  North-South winners were Deirdre Ling and Anita Persson, followed by Barbara Besse and Miles Jaffe in second, and Sandy and Michael Lindheimer in third place. Finishing first overall were Deirdre Ling and Ed Russell, followed by Joe Ashcroft and Mollie Whalen in second, Barbara Besse and Sandy Lindheimer in third, Barbara McLagan and Rich Alpert in fourth, and Bea Phear and Nancy Neil in fourth.  Also finishing third in the North-South direction were Cathy Minkiewicz and Simmy Denhart.

At the Island Bridge Club in West Tisbury on Thursday, July 24, 10 tables were in play.  Finishing first in the North-South direction were Ed Russell and Deirdre Ling. Tied for second were Sandy and Michael Lindheimer and Eric Stricoff and John O’Keefe. Fourth place went to Barbara Besse and Miles Jaffe. Finishing first in the East-West direction were Mollie Whalen and Joe Ashcroft, followed by David Donald and Rich Colter in second, Foster Osborne and Hope Whipple in third, and Lou Winkelman and Don Nelson in fourth.

At the Bridge Club of Martha’s Vineyard on Saturday, July 26, 10 tables were in play for a special game honoring Rosemary Taylor, a longtime supporter of bridge on the Island. Funds from the game will be donated to a special fund for bridge education for youth. Finishing first North-South were Mollie Whalen and Joe Ashcroft, followed by Colleen Morris and Paul Howes in second, Story Osborne and Don Nelson in third, and Deirdre Ling and Carol Whitmarsh in fourth. East-West winners were Hester Boxill and Dorothy Brannon, Lee Scott and Bea Phear in second, Brooks Robards and Jim Kaplan in third, and Dorothy Libron-Green and Betty Dixon in fourth.
