Pancakes were bountiful last Sunday at the Edgartown Fire Station, as were more than a thousand smiling faces. The annual fire department breakfast was a great success as local and visiting families and friends alike, an estimated 1,100 to 1,300 in attendance, came to the fire station to support the department.

From 8 am through 12 noon, children bounced around the station, thrilled to interact with fire equipment hands-on, whether that meant exploring the interior of fire trucks or experimenting with hoses. Volunteers gave tours, demonstrations, and entertained throughout the morning, giving a sunny atmosphere to a rainy day.

Donations to the free event were received in a fireman's boot and will benefit the new Fire Museum addition. Richard Kelly, a member of the Firemen's Association and former captain of the department, notes a meeting will be held in the next few months to address next year's pancake breakfast, so as to continue the tradition of family fun.
