Help for Island soldiers
To the Editor:
On December 11, at noon, a small group of veterans gathered to participate in a ceremony called "Wreaths Across America." This ceremony was happening all across our great nation to remember the fallen, honor those who serve, and teach our children the value of freedom.
This is the sixth year that American Legion Post 257 has participated in this program. I would like to thank those who came and especially those who participated and laid wreaths: U.S. Army Wreath: Burt Combra; U.S. Navy Wreath: Past Commander James Dorsey; U.S. M.C. Wreath: Cpl. James Bishop; U.S.A.F. Wreath: Sr. MSGT David Kann; U.S.C.G. Wreath: Lt. Col Bill Carroll; U.S. Merchant Marine Wreath: Maj. Stan Mercer; POW/MIA Wreath: Commander Edward Colligan; invocation by Father Lopes; Taps by Edson Rodgers.
Thank you all for your participation and caring. The wreaths are on display at the directory at the Avenue of Flags in Oak Grove Cemetery, which records the names of 450 veterans.
