NMD is Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket's "green" mechanical contractor, designing and installing geothermal, solar thermal, heat pump, and conventional HVAC systems, plumbing, and control systems. They designed and installed the mechanical systems for the Vineyard’s first two LEED for Homes residences. Several of their projects have won national awards; they were awarded 1st place in “Most Innovative Green Design” and 2nd place in “Best Residential Green Design” in the 2009 nationwide Green Mechanical Awards held at GreenBuild 2009 in Phoenix, AZ. Their solar hot water systems include the island’s largest residential solar hot water system (20 panels) and the first and only commercial solar hot water installation (Atria Restaurant). They have received state and federal funding to conduct wind turbine feasibility studies on two island farms as part of their “Massachusetts Electric Farm Model”.
