Lookout Cottage on Able's Hill
The quintessential Abel's Hill overlook on the South Shore - from a quaint cottage in disrepair emerged a charming, comfy retreat with all the creature comforts incorporated. A soothing, restful and seaside palette was chosen, along with natural and honest materials; linens, indoor/ outdoor fabrics, wood, wicker & antique brass. What more could one ever need for island living? The client was willing to go the distance rebuilding the fireplace & chimney and incorporating old timbers in the ceiling. Walls were taken down to open up all the spaces around the central fireplace, windows replaced and added, the kitchen & bathroom updated, and outdoor shower added. Regular doors became French doors, the ceiling opened up to expose the rafters, and a new sliding bedroom door saved precious door swing space. Without changing the footprint, this one bedroom structure gained breadth, height and an open, flowing floor plan. A journey that ended with a cottage that looks and feels like a timeless Vineyard sanctuary.
