Historic Renovation in VH
The challenges presented by this project included minimizing disruption to the fabric of the historic district, re-using the carriage house barn which is particularly visible from the street, and accommodating a busy family as it joined the year-round Vineyard community.
The first component of the project replaced a ‘50s-era jalousie porch with a period dining room and added a new kitchen and master bedroom and bath. We then took the old post-and-beam barn and transformed its interior into a guest cottage for use by our clients’ teenage son and his friends. The interior is opened up to light and views of the harbor with carefully placed windows and shed dormers. The dramatic stair, inserted into the vaulted living space, leads up to the sleeping loft. Below the loft are a kitchenette and bath.
