Squash Meadow Construction
OB Charm, Modular Design
Our goal when we designed this was to build a 2,000 sq. ft. single-family home within a tight budget that epitomized the architecture and charm of Oak Bluffs.
Originally we were planning to build the home onsite. We did not think that our partner, Westchester Modular Homes, could build a home that had such a modular-unfriendly design. For the heck of it, we sent the plans to Westchester to get their input and the bottom line is they were able to do it. The house came in 7 large pieces and many smaller parts. They were set on the foundation on July 27th and 28th. Three weeks later, the cedar siding and cedar exterior trim were completed.
The inside is comprised of heart pine floors, American Elm counters and a Cherry staircase. The heating is a high efficiency boiler with Runtal radiation. Other features include a screened-in porch, an art studio and cathedral ceilings throughout. The project is running on time and on budget and the family will be able to move in by the end of October, 2011.
