Both the Martha's Vineyard Public Charter School and the Oak Bluffs School held fundraising auction parties over the weekend.
The Oak Bluffs School raised money for the class of 2011's eighth grade class trip to Philadelphia. Michelle Bettencourt, the school secretary who is also the treasurer of her daughter Samantha's eight-grade class, organized the event with the help of a "great committee." The class raised approximately $15,000. "It might be the highest, if not one of the highest, raised by the eighth grade auctions," Ms. Bettencourt said.
The next fundraiser for the O.B. eighth grade is a Pasta Dinner this Thursday, Oct. 7, from 5 to 7 pm in the school cafeteria. Admission is $8; $5 for children.
Paul Karasik, Charter School development director and chief auctioneer, reports that the Rock Auction was a huge success. Close to 150 live and silent auction items fetched $20,000 for the school's art programs: artists-in residences, project period, and mentorships.
