Some of the funniest men in New England are coming to the Dreamland Ballroom above the Martha’s Vineyard Chowder Company for the second annual Martha’s Vineyard Comedy Festival. Jim McCue, who started and currently hosts the Boston Comedy Festival, will host the event.

Mr. McCue has been called “Boston’s King of Crowd Work,” and he is known for his improvisational interactions with the crowd. He has worked in top comedy clubs around the world and has been featured on “Last Comic Standing” and on Comedy Central.

Joining Mr. McCue is Steve Sweeney and Joey Caroll. Don Gavin was originally scheduled but has cancelled his appearance. Mr. Sweeney is a legendary comic veteran. He can imitate any voice in “Bahston” and as a master of dialect has sent up Boston mayors from Thomas Menino to Kevin White.

Mr. Sweeney often arrives for shows disheveled, seeming grizzled and professionally droll. His fun use of cynicism and matter-of-fact truisms build a comic momentum that is as unstoppable as the audiences’ laughter.

Mr. Caroll, who replaced Mr. Gavin in this show, performs around the world for U.S. soldiers. “After strategically conquering Boston and much of the United States, Joey has been invited countless times to use his sharp wit and flawless comic timing bringing much needed laughter to our troops around the world,” according to a press release.

All of these comics are veterans of the Boston comedy scene, long touted as one of the most talented and original in the country. As Henry Ward Beecher said, “Mirth is God’s medicine. Everybody ought to bathe in it.”

The performances are Thursday and Friday, July 19 and 20 at Dreamland in Oak Bluffs, doors open at 8 pm. Steve Sweeney and Jim McCue will perform on Thursday, and Jim McCue and Joey Caroll will perform on Friday. Tickets are $15 for each show, or $25 for both shows.
