Amid the changing light and rustling leaves of the woods of West Tisbury, Island artist Mitch Gordon has created a calm sanctuary for his nature-inspired work. The airy white-washed Turpentine Gallery is filled with Mr. Gordon’s driftwood sculptures and his paintings, with subjects ranging from landscapes to his children.
Mr. Gordon often spends weeks or even years on one of his paintings, beginning outside in the fields, then continuing the process in the studio. Visitors too may engage in a microcosm of this wilderness-to-gallery progression as they step from the balm of the outdoors to view the finished work.
