Achievements
Lacey McIntosh of Edgartown was recently chosen as a student representative for the Bureau on Scientific Affairs and Public Health by the American Osteopathic Association. Lacey is a student at the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine in Maine.
Art DeLorenzo of Vineyard Haven received the Castleton State College Alumni Association's Outstanding Alumni Award at the college's convocation ceremony on August 28. Mr. DeLorenzo was recognized for his work on the Alumni Association Board as a member and past president, and his contribution to the college's Emerging Leaders program. He was a 1964 graduate of Castleton.
Matthew Seklecki of Vineyard Haven was named a resident assistant for the Office of Student Life at Saint Michael's College in Colchester, Vt., for the 2008-09 school year. Matthew is a sophomore studying political science. He is the son of Daniel Seklecki and Catherine MacDonald.
The Martha's Vineyard Bonsai Society announces the results of the public's vote on which of the bonsais displayed at the Ag Fair were their favorites.

Rob Douglas of West Tisbury set the overall world speed sailing record in Luderitz, Namibia, with a speed of 49.84 knots on September 19. He is currently the fastest sailor in the world.

Dr. David Finkelstein, O.D., recently attended The Optometric Retina Society meeting in Boston, part of the fifth annual Educational Conference.
Alison Carr of West Tisbury is spending the fall 2008 semester at Wroxton College in Oxfordshire, England. Alison is currently a student at Fairleigh Dickenson University in Florham, N.J. She is studying theater arts.
Marcia Smilack of Chilmark was recently included in a museum show at McMaster Museum of Art in Hamilton, Ontario. Ms. Smilack is a photographer who focuses on reflective images.
Heather Welch of Island Alpaca was recently selected as the winner of the 2009 Massachusetts Agriculture Calendar Photo Contest. Two of her photographs will appear in the calendar. Ms. Welch was also awarded first place for The Alpaca Owners and Breeders Association National Conference Photo Contest with "Island Alpaca Marle, Strikes a Pose." This photo will be in the fall edition of Alpacas Magazine. Two other photos submitted by the farm won second and third place and will also appear in the magazine.
