Town Column : Aquinnah

Hi everyone, I'm the new reporter on the Aquinnah beat, Molly Purves. I've lived here full-time almost two years and have spent summers here since 2000. I'm married to Curtis Langer, and we have a son, Rodeo, who's 20 months old and who, unlike me, was born here. Some people may know me from The Vineyard Playhouse where I've performed in numerous productions, but most people probably don't know me at all. I am hoping that with the help of friends and townspeople I will quickly become more acquainted with the intricacies of my adopted hometown. I also look forward to getting emails from you when I fall short.
On to the news: We were supposed to have a town meeting last Thursday, Nov. 13, to take care of some housekeeping, late bills, a couple of articles and such, but no one showed up. Here is the bummer of democracy, you do actually have to show up for things to get done, or at least 10 of us do, 10 being the magic number for a quorum. I was among those who did not show up. My excuse: my husband works Thursday nights, so I would have to get a sitter. What's yours? The meeting has not yet been rescheduled, but I will let you know when it has been and I'll go if you go, how's that? Maybe, we can even share a sitter.
The Aquinnah Library, which is closed for repairs, will reopen in early December in temporary quarters across State Road in the old Town Hall. The temporary library will hold 30 percent of the collection, and all new and heavily circulated material, movies, and periodicals will be available and there will be computer and Internet access. There will be no fines accrued on material during the time that the library is closed and you can return items to the drop box. Jenny, Michelle, and Natalie will be working in the library while it is closed during regular hours: Tuesday and Thursday 2 to 7 pm, and Saturday 10 am to 4 pm, so please call if you have questions, 508-645-2314. There will be an open house party once the temporary library is open, but no date has been set yet.
That's all for now. Keep the info coming.
