Why is it that the hot humid days of summer seem to drag on forever and the beautiful, crisp, sunny days of fall pass by at lightning speed? In one week it will be Thanksgiving. We have so many things that we can be thankful for, but when you make that list, also make another. Make a list of things we don't have that we can be thankful for. Email your lists to me for next week's column.
Reminder to all you holiday shoppers that the Woodside II annual holiday fair will take place this Saturday, Nov. 22, from 9 am to 2 pm. There will be many tempting items on sale from baked goods to home-crafted items.
The Oak Bluffs Library will show a new DVD release on its large projection screen on movie night Thursday, Dec. 4, at 6 pm. Steve Carell and Anne Hathaway star in this comedy remake of a hit television series. Popcorn and beverages will be served.
The 5K for KJ run/walk takes place on November 29. It starts at the Martha's Vineyard Regional High School and is a pre-set course through the State Forest. This is to benefit the Kevin Johnson Cross-Country Scholarship Fund. Registrations forms are available in the high school office.
School students will be dismissed for the Thanksgiving break at the end of the day on Tuesday, Nov. 25. They will return to school Monday, Dec. 1.
Word has been received here of the passing of Shirley Viera Zilinek in Bellingham, Wash. Shirley, a daughter of the late John and Helen Viera of Oak Bluffs, leaves a son and two grandchildren; two sisters, Lillian Colligan and Betty Ann Searle of Vineyard Haven, and another sister, Arlene Viera of New Bedford. She was pre-deceased by her brother John Viera Jr. Our sympathies to this Island family.
We send birthday smiles to Susan deBettencourt on November 21, Gina deBettencourt on the 23rd,Talia Luening and Pam Herman on November 24. Deb Brown celebrates on November 25, followed by Nora Jardin and Bill Anderson Jr. the next day.
Not much news this week, perhaps it is the pre-holiday slowdown. Email me your news remembering that the deadline will be Friday this week because of the early publication.
Enjoy your week.
Peace.
