Achievements
The Yard, the dance colony in Chilmark, was recently awarded a grant from the Jerome Robbins Foundation, a New York City-based dance funding organization.
Christina Veitor of Edgartown recently participated in the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine's White Coat Ceremony to formally recognize the transition from layperson to responsibility of physicians.
Ruth DeWilde-Major of Tisbury has recently received confirmation that her painting, "Plymouth Trade House at Cushnoc, 1628" was purchased by the John Howland Society in Plymouth. The painting will be installed in the spring of 2009.
Morgan Woods, the affordable housing development in Edgartown, won the 2008 Urban Land Institute by the J. Ronald Terwilliger Award for Workforce Housing Models of Excellence Award. Entries are judged on criteria including: affordability, involvement of public/private partnership, energy cost savings, green construction and innovative building technologies that reduce cost and improve efficiency.
Elaine Cawley Weintraub of West Tisbury was recently appointed a member of the Global Education Advisory Council to the Commissioner for Education of Massachusetts. The council is one of 17 that were established in part by the Education Reform Act of 1993.
