Cars for Boys and Girls Clubs

Boys and Girls Clubs throughout Massachusetts are seeking donations of cars which they will sell to help support their programs. The IRS has changed its policy from allowing the blue book market value of a donated automobile as a deduction. Now donation credit is based on the sale price. To donate, call 800-246-0493.

A holiday party for the books

The Oak Bluffs library hosts its Holiday Open House today from 2 to 5 pm. The free event includes cookie decorating, holiday music, a visit from Santa, and grab bags. This year's food table features dishes from the Friends' new cookbook, "Tastes of Cottage City from Near and Far." Tote bags and cookbooks are for sale - great for last-minute gifts. Donations are welcome.

Hanging by a thread

On Saturday, Dec. 13, the Spindrift Marionettes presented a puppet show at the Charter School entitled, "Demazana." Jill Macy and April Thanhauser deftly manipulated vibrant handmade puppets to act out an African folk tale, narrated by Marsha Wynsrig, for a small but enthusiastic audience.

Trees for the Moores

If you still need to buy a Christmas tree, Jim's Package Store in Oak Bluffs is selling them to raise money for Jim Moore of Edgartown, who is fighting brain cancer. For more information, call 508-693-0236.

Santa's in town

Santa and Mrs. Claus will be at the Portuguese American Club in Oak Bluffs this Sunday, Dec. 21. From 1:30 to 3 pm, enjoy refreshments, take photos, an celebrate Christmas early at the club.
