Achievements
Zen Hughes, a sophomore at the Martha's Vineyard Public Charter School, recently received an honorable mention for her collage illustration in the 2009 Boston Globe Scholastic Art and Writing Awards.
Sydney Dunbrack, a senior at the Martha's Vineyard Public Charter School, recently received a Gold Key for her collage illustration in the 2009 Boston Globe Scholastic Art and Writing Awards. Her piece will compete in New York City this spring for additional awards.
Seabreezes, the Martha's Vineyard Regional High School's literary magazine, recently received the rank of Excellent in the 2008 National Council of Teachers of English program to recognize excellence in student literary magazines. Recent Martha's Vineyard Regional High School graduate Marina Sharkovitz served as Editor-in-chief; Janice Frame and Bill McCarthy are faculty advisors.
Vanessa Williams of Dobbs Ferry, N.Y., has been accepted to Pace University's Law Program for the fall of 2009. Vanessa, the daughter of Woody and Phyllis Williams of Vineyard Haven, is a 2002 graduate of Martha's Vineyard Regional High School.
The IMPers Improv Troupe was recently selected to perform as an apprentice team by the Chicago Improv Festival for the second year in a row. The team that includes Ashley Girard, Sarah Swift, Ray Ewing, Vivian Ewing, Mariah MacKenzie, Kristen Parece, Della Burke, and directed by Donna Swift, will travel to Chicago in April for the festival.
Martha's Vineyard Community Services (MVCS) recently received an $80,000 grant from the Peter and Elizabeth C. Tower Foundation, for the implementation of trauma-focused cognitive behavior therapy. MVCS also received $124,068 in technology-related grants from the Tower Foundation.

Anne Holmes welcomed Foreste Courage Ganthier Holmes, 5, of Port-au-Prince, Haiti to his new home in Tisbury on October 9, 2008, where he joined his new three-year-old brother Jack.

Michelle O'Donnell and Paul Linderson Jr. of Tisbury announce the birth of their son, Beau Eric Linderson, on February 1 at Women and Infants Hospital in Providence, R.I. Beau weighed 4 pounds, 14 ounces. His Island grandparents are Marc and Robin O'Donnell of Tisbury.

Eddie and Erin Pacheco of Oak Bluffs announce the birth of their daughter, Kelly Irene Pacheco, on February 6 at Falmouth Hospital. Kelly weighed 6 pounds, 12 ounces, and joins twin brothers Robby and Teddy.

Nicole DerManelian and Marc Begle of Vineyard Haven announce the birth of their daughter, Arjuna DerManelian Begle, on February 7 at Martha's Vineyard Hospital. Arjuna weighed 7 pounds, 10 ounces.

Kim and Lee Carlos of Edgartown announce the birth of their daughter, Franchesca Rose Carlos, on February 11 at Martha's Vineyard Hospital. Franchesca weighed 6 pounds, 12 ounces, and joins sisters Sabrina and Gabriella.

Sherine Forbes and Tryone Hutton of Oak Bluffs announce the birth of their son, Tashard Jabori Hutton, on February 14 at Martha's Vineyard Hospital. Tashard weighed 7 pounds.

Alicia Condlin of Edgartown and Andrew Nicholson of Abington were married in Katama on August 8, 2008. Alicia is the daughter of Paul and Linda Condlin of Edgartown. Andrew is the son of Linda Williams of Abington.
Nadine Johnson and Roger Armstrong
Nadine Johnson of North Andover and Roger Armstrong of Tisbury were married on January 3 at the Hampshire House on Beacon Hill in Boston. Nadine is the daughter of Stewart and Constance Johnson of Woburn. Roger is the son of Betty Armstrong and the late Donald Armstrong of Burtonsville, Md.
