Emily Post would be proud

Last Tuesday, Feb. 10, 20 students from the Vineyard Montessori School visited the Harbor View Hotel to learn about proper etiquette. Toby Franklin, the hotel's director of food and beverage, gave the three- to five-year-olds important lessons about posture, table manners, and social tips.

After instructing the boys in offering to take the girls' coats - to which some girls replied "No thank you" - the students ordered their own drinks, from chocolate milk to Shirley Temples. They also enjoyed a three-course meal of grilled cheese sandwiches that they learned to cut property, tomato soup, macaroni and cheese, and strawberries with chocolate sauce.

"It was a fantastic event. The children were just so excited and so absorbed in the whole thing," said Lorna Ashe, director of Vineyard Montessori School. "It's incredible to see three-year-olds sitting up and still at their seats."
