Fine arts Fellows
West Tisbury Library hosts poetry and writing fellows from the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, a residency program for emerging artists and writers. Free readings at 5:30 pm every Wednesday from March 4 through April 1. Reception follows. Call 508-693-3366.

On Saturday, Feb. 21, the Oak Bluffs Library hosted a bilingual story time, in English and Portuguese. Children's librarian Jessica Bowers and 10-year-old Taynara Goncalves read "Bark, George" by Jules Feiffer. Portuguese/English story times run from the fall to the spring, generally on the third Saturday of the month. The next one is on March 21.
Kindergarten registration
Tisbury School kindergarten registration for children who will be five years old on or before September 1 is on Thursday, April 16, at the school. Pre-registration packets are available from now until April 3 by calling Barbara Armstrong, 508-696-6500. A parent orientation meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, April 29, at 6 pm in the school's library.
ACE MV: Spring session
The Adult and Community Education (ACE MV) program's spring session is from March 9 to April 16, and offers 50 courses as well as single-event seminars. From capoeira and hula-hoop to gardening with children and a home-based business class, ACE MV offers classes on a diverse range of subjects taught by knowledgeable instructors. Course catalogs are available at Island school, libraries, and on acemv.org. Registration is from 5 to 7 pm in the Martha's Vineyard Regional High School's lobby on March 3 and 4. Scholarships
Two scholarship committees announce 2009 award opportunities. The Howard M. and Mary C. Hayward Memorial Scholarship Committee seeks essays from students who will pursue further education in agriculture, aquaculture, or a related science in the fall, and will award the winner $500. The 2009 Jim Lambert Memorial Scholarship applications are available at the Martha's Vineyard Chamber of Commerce in Vineyard Haven. Scholarships are awarded to graduates of an Island secondary school who are currently enrolled in an accredited undergraduate or post-secondary education institution.
