Fun by the dozen
Easter egg hunts will be held around Martha's Vineyard this Sunday, April 12, beginning at the Grace Episcopal Church in Vineyard Haven at 10 am. From 11 am until 3 pm, young diners at the Harbor View Hotel in Edgartown are invited to a hunt on the lawn. At 1 pm are hunts at Vineyard Gardens in West Tisbury and the Portuguese-American Club in Oak Bluffs (for children 12 and under), and at the Duck Inn in Aquinnah.

Rhymes with...
In good timing with National Poetry Month, the poetry performance series "Island Voices" debuts this month at Che's Lounge in Vineyard Haven. Organized by Linda Black and Michael West, who will also perform, this month's show features Richard Skidmore at the "anything goes" open mike night. The show is on Wednesday, April 15, at 7:30 pm. It's all in the name
As part of Sail Martha's Vineyard series of Continuing Education Presentations, which runs weekly through May 7, Oak Bluffs woodcarver J.P. Uranker will discuss Quarterboards, the decoratively carved nameplates on ships, tonight from 7 to 9 pm. Up next is Brock Callen, who will teach the basics of coastal navigation. ACE MV continues
The Adult and Community Education program continues this week and next with single session seminars. Tonight from 6:30 to 9 pm, learn Italian cooking with local ingredients with chef Chris Fischer. Next Wednesday, Susie Bowman of Felix Neck teaches about common shells of Martha's Vineyard at 6:30 pm, and Paul S. Bracy lectures on diversity awareness at 6:30 pm on Thursday. Brush with the past
Change is the subject of Vineyard Haven artist Jack Green's new exhibit, entitled Airbrush Drawings and Paintings from the 1970s, which features a dozen large paintings and 16 small studies that he created 30 years ago. The exhibit will be displayed at Featherstone Center for the Arts between April 19 and April 29, with a reception on the 19th, from 4 to 6 pm.
Opening day
This Friday, the Simon Gallery in Vineyard Haven opens for its second season. The Simons celebrate with an Easter Weekend sale featuring Ronni Simon's jewelry and Peter Simon's photography. Ronni also debuts her new art form of metal and bead sculptures on driftwood. The gallery is located at 54 Main Street in Vineyard Haven and is open Friday through Sunday from 10 am to 5 pm. Paging Mr. Carrick
At Featherstone Center for the Arts on April 5, a reception was held to celebrate the opening of a show featuring the work of author/illustrator Paul Carrick, son of author/illustrator team Carol Carrick and the late Donald Carrick. Friends gathered to welcome back the Martha's Vineyard native and view his mixed-media creations that illustrate his books, "Watch Out for Wolfgang" and "Wired," along with his illustrations for his mother's books, "Mothers Are Like That" and "The Polar Bears are Hungry."

Open greenhouses
On the afternoon of April 5, COMSOG (Community Solar Greenhouse) in Oak Bluffs and Vineyard Gardens Nursery in West Tisbury hosted open houses in honor of Palm Sunday. Attendees enjoyed the beautiful day by perusing colorful arrays of plants, and they were even given a plant to take home for free.
