FARM chores

The FARM Institute invites Island residents and visitors to their bi-monthly Family and Community Chores on Saturday, June 13, at 9 am. Visitors of all ages are encouraged to lend a hand with the morning chores on the farm. Scheduled chores include collecting eggs, a goat milking demonstration, feeding and care of farm animals, and garden and barn chores. There is a suggested donation of $10 per family. Jane Searle, Martha's Vineyard

Jane Searle celebrates 90

Jane Searle, a Tisbury resident, celebrated turning 90 years old on June 9 at a West Tisbury Congregational Church picnic this past Sunday, and again on Tuesday at a party at the Tisbury Senior Center, where she is an active volunteer. A devoted gardener, the stylish Ms. Searle attends regular exercise classes, and helps beautify the grounds at Woodside Village Senior Housing where she lives.

She and her late husband, Herb Searle, who were married for 67 years, moved to the Vineyard 14 years ago. She is the mother of Stephen Searle and Georgia Morris, and grandmother of Sam and Lily Morris.

Yoga on the beach

Yoga instructor Michele McNiff offers an invitation to learn simple yoga movements this Saturday, June 13, at 8 am. An experienced registered yoga teacher, Ms. McNiff has just returned from Kripalu center for yoga and health in the Berkshires. The lesson is located on Inkwell Beach, and admission is $10. Pomp and circumstance

The Martha's Vineyard Regional High School's graduation is this Sunday, June 14, at the Tabernacle in Oak Bluffs. The class of 2009 will gather at 1 pm, with the ceremony beginning at 1:30 pm. Members of the class will speak, as will new principal Stephen Nixon.

Class Night is Friday, when prizes and scholarships are awarded to Island graduates and post-graduates, beginning at 7 pm. For more information, visit mvrhs.org.

Benefits abound

There are two benefits for Island elementary school children this weekend: a carwash and a tag/bake sale. From 9 am to 12 noon, the West Tisbury School fifth graders will have a carwash at the Fire Station.

Also from 9 am to 12 noon, Tisbury School fifth and sixth graders will have a tag sale and bake sale to raise money for their class trip on the Shenandoah.

Comer y hablar

The monthly Spanish-speaking potluck dinner Noche de Hablar Espanol is this Tuesday, June 16, at St. Andrew's Parish Hall in Edgartown. The dinners continue on the third Tuesday of the month, at 6:30 pm. For more information, call Lynn Ditchfield at 508-627-8373.

Sense of success

The winter classes of Sense of Wonder Creations concluded with art and entertainment last Saturday and Sunday under the tent

at the camp's Vineyard Haven studio. The multi-media work of students aged 5 to 13 included paintings, sculpture, masks, and mosaics. Attendees to the closing party on Sunday afternoon were treated to live music by Adam Lipsky,

Niko Ewing, and friends, along with games and refreshments. Proceeds from the nonprofit program's Sense of Wonder 2009 Art Show and Benefit went to Mercy Corps, providing food for hungry children around the world.
