Oak Bluffs reigns

The Oak Bluffs boys team edged out West Tisbury, 29.5 to 29 points to win the boys interscholastic quadrennial track meet at the high school oval, Thursday. Tisbury was third with 17 and Edgartown fourth at 10.5

How does a team score a half point? Oak Bluffs's Diego deFreitas and Edgartown's Brian Hurley tied for fourth in the 100-meter dash, dividing the fourth-place point.

Scoring was 5 for first, 3 for second, 2 for third and 1 for fourth.

The Oak Bluffs boys won four of the eight events: Lynnaeker Souza was a double winner claiming the long jump with a 15' 8" leap and finishing first at 200 meters in 28.29. Jeremy Alley-Tarter won the mile in 5:28.5 and was fourth in the long jump. The Blazer 4x100 relay team nosed out Tisbury, 57:26 to 57.59.

Other Oak Bluffs points came via Emerson Hazell who was 2nd in the shot putt and 3rd in the discus. Pat Garrett was 3rd at the hurdles.

Double scorer for West Tisbury was Jacob Lawrence, winner of the 100 and the hurdles. Jacob was also third in the long jump. Cooper Chapman, Kyle Jaba-Woodruff, and

Justin Smith were 2, 3, 4 at 200 meters. Cooper was third in the 100. WesTiz's Mike Schroeder, Sam Entner, and Ben Poole were 2nd, 3rd and 4th at the mile. Failure to score in the relay cost the up-Islanders the championship.

Tisbury's pointers were Jeremiah Roberts who won the shot with a heave of 34' 4.5", took second in the long jump at 15' 4" and was second over the hurdles. Theo Gude was second at 100 meters.

The Tisbury 4x100 relay was second at 57:81, less than a tick of the watch behind Oak Bluffs

Edgartown pointers were Brian Hurley and Ryan Gosson who were 1 - 2 with the discus and Vittor Mouzinho, fourth in the hurdles.

The Edgartown boys relay team was third at 1:01.51.

Blazing girls

The Oak Bluffs girls collected 33 points to Edgartown's 23, West Tisbury's 21 and Tisbury's 9.

Shavanae Anderson won the long jump for Oak Bluffs with a 13' 8" leap and was second in the 100-meter sprint. Haley Maciel was first at 200 meters.

Molly Wallace was third over the hurdles, third at 100 meters, and third in the long jump. Kendall Robinson was third in the shot and Katherine Johnson was fourth with the discus.

Hannah Moore won the mile in 6:44.31, and the Blazers 4x100 team came in second.

For Edgartown, Amy Fligor was first with the discus and fourth at the shot putt. Kylie Willoughby took second in the long jump, won the 100-meter dash, and ran a leg on the winning 4x100 relay team.

Other Eagle pointers were Zoe Nugent, 2nd at 200 meters, and Victoria Sadowski, 4th in the hurdles.

West Tisbury's Isabel Smith was first over the hurdles and Lucy Benedetto was right behind in second place. Isabel also picked up two points with the discus and another in the long jump. Jessica Campbell was fourth in the 100.

Mariah Campbell, Ella Mahoney, and Jessica Campbell finished 2-3-4 in the mile.

Maggie Riseborough won the shot put for Tisbury with a 31' 5.5" effort and was second with the discus at 58' 4". The only other lady Tiger to score was Fionnuala Howell, 4th at 200 meters.
