Jemima James Her unadorned country tunes ache with tender loneliness and weary grace. A legendary Island figure who's been a mother to anyone here who's ever tried to write a song. Some of them will join her on Monday evening at Featherstone in Oak Bluffs.
Johnny Hoy and the Bluefish With a blue, baritone voice and swift harp hooks, Johnny leads this tight and raw barroom blues band. They wrote the soundtrack to those hot Vineyard nights when your shirt sticks to your skin and you're still dancing. Wednesday at Mediterranean in Oak Bluffs.
The Boogies These alien disco freaks keep it tight and funky despite the fact that they're drunker than you are. The only time in your life you'll feel awkward if your not wearing a sequined unitard. Friday night at Nectar's at the airport.
Draíocht Harpist Michael Rooney and flutist June McCormack carve playful currents through the lush landscape of traditional Irish music. Rooney provides a unique rhythmic foundation while McCormack soars above. Saturday night at Katharine Cornell Theatre in Vineyard Haven as part of KCT Concerts.
The Zoo Something magical happens when you mix a hot chick in leather pants, cherry-red fauxhawk, and a wild tambourine. They put on pyrotechnical performances and cover everything from Korn to Fergie. Winner of MTV's cover band competition and you'll see why. Friday and Saturday nights at The Lampost in Oak Bluffs.
