Maria R. De Freitas Pinto

Rosiane and Marcos De Freitas of Oak Bluffs announce the birth of their daughter, Maria Rita S. De Freitas Pinto, on July 8 at Martha's Vineyard Hospital. Maria weighed 8 pounds, 6 ounces.

Weddings

Raquel V. Clark and Joseph N. Baldwin

Raquel V. Clark of Westminster, Vt. and Joseph N. Baldwin of Vineyard Haven were married on June 13 in Brattleboro, Vt. Raquel is the daughter of Keith and Bonnie Clark of Westminster. Joseph is the son of Marie Baldwin of Vineyard Haven. The couple will reside in Springfield.

Patricia M. Nelson and Jonathan P. Parker

Patricia M. Nelson of Spartanburg, S.C., and Jonathan P. Parker of Oak Bluffs were married on June 28 in Oak Bluffs. Patricia is the daughter of Jon and Teresa Nelson of Austin, Texas. Jonathan is the son of Patrick and Cathy Parker of Oak Bluffs.

Achievements

Harvey Burrell of Vineyard Haven and East Boston was selected by the WGBH-Lab as part of a team of six other young filmmakers to write, film, and produce a short documentary about global warming. The documentary, titled "Cold Water," will examine the effects of greenhouse gases and rising water temperatures on the New England fishing industry.

Maili Scott of West Tisbury was recently named to the Honor Roll at Miss Hall's School of Pittsfield for the 2008-2009 spring semester. Maili is the daughter of Hannah and Jonathan Scott.

Benjamin A. Madeiras of Oak Bluffs was recently awarded a $4,000 scholarship from the National Garden Clubs Inc. The scholarship program offers financial aid to students continuing studies in areas such as agriculture education, horticulture, and environmental conservation.

Rebekah Nivala of Vineyard Haven, at Wheaton College in Wheaton, Ill. Rebekah is the daughter of Risto and Lisa Nivala.

Sagitta Woodman of West Tisbury, at Eastern Connecticut State University in Willamantic, Conn.

Stephen Greenberg of West Tisbury, at Boston College in Chestnut Hill. Stephen, the son of Deborah and Larry Greenberg, was also named to the 1st Honors Dean's list.

Rachel Lucier of Oak Bluffs recently received a bachelor of fine arts in furniture design from Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, R.I.

Jakob F. Palches of Oak Bluffs recently received an associate of science degree from Massachusetts Bay Community College in Wellesley. Jakob was on the dean's list for the 2009 spring semester.

Sarah Greenberg of West Tisbury recently graduated cum laude from Tufts University. Sarah, daughter of Deborah and Larry Greenberg, received a bachelor of arts degree and was also on the dean's list.
