Page turner at Shaw Cramer
The Shaw Cramer Gallery recently celebrated the release of the book, "Vineyard Artists in the Kitchen," by Nancy Shaw Cramer with photographs by Kathy Newman. Artists Lucy Mitchell, Rez Williams, and others also attended this event on Friday, July 10. The book includes favorite recipes of the artists who exhibit at the gallery. The book provides 14 recipes, as well as written comments from the artists about their cooking and artwork, $52. 508-696-7323.
Summer scenes
West Tisbury artists Ruth Kirchmeier and Hermine Hull held a reception last Sunday at the Hermine Merel Smith Fine Art Gallery. Ms. Hull, who owns the West Tisbury gallery, works in oil and paints from her everyday Island experiences: a visiting friend in a chair, a beach where she walks her dog, a book or a coffee cup placed on a table.
Ruth Kirchmeier is well known for her woodcuts that combine style and complexity. Rather than printing every edition exactly alike, she chooses different variations of colors. She also prints each block in different orders to achieve a variety of effects in each of her pieces. Many of her subjects include Vineyard landscapes, both day and night.
The gallery is at 548 Edgartown-West Tisbury Road, and is open daily from 11 am to 5 pm. For more information, call 508-693-7719.
