Making noise for affordable housing
The Island Affordable Housing Fund (IAHF) is holding two fundraising events this weekend. “Rock the Rock 2009 Music Festival and Soirée” will be held at The Boathouse Field Club in Edgartown this Saturday, July 25, from 6 to 10 pm. The event will include music from Kim Carnes, the Grammy-winning Nashville singer/songwriter, Ernie and The Automatics, James Montgomery, Bruce Isaacson, and The Adam Ezra Group. Truly Scrumptious, the caterer, will offer a cocktail buffet and raw bar.

The Fund is also holding their third annual “Housing on the Tube” telethon at Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School that will be broadcast live on Plum TV, channel 76. The telethon will be broadcasted on July 24 to 26. On Friday, it will show from 9 to 11 am and 4 to 8 pm. Saturday it will be on from 9 to 11 am, and then 2 to 5 pm. On Sunday it will show from 9 to 11 am, and 4 to 8 pm. Proceeds from the weekend’s fundraisers go directly to IAHF projects. This year, they aim to beat their goal of $650,000. Comcast, Cronig’s Market, and Colonial Reproductions, Inc. help to sponsor these events.
“Each year we’ve had the telethon and the soirée at different venues,” said Guinevere Cramer, development director at Island Affordable Housing. “This year we have expanded our musical lineup to really offer an event that’s different from any other, and to really make us stand out,” she said.
A limited number of tickets ($200) for the soiree are still available at 508-696-0943 or online at islandaffordable.org, or through individual board members.
“With all things considered regarding the economy, we’re confident that our community will come together to make a success. There are so many charities out there and the people are such a great aspect for fundraising,” Ms. Cramer said. “Last year’s event was unbelievable, and we’re confident that people will feel the same way this year and the turnout will be a great success."
