This week is especially for all those gentleman who love to appear wearing their oldest, most comfortable splattered shorts and faded tee-shirts. Men, it is time to branch out and up your coolness factor. You don’t have to go from home-style to suits, but at least think about a smart pair of shorts or slacks and a comfortable collared shirt when going to your favorite Island restaurants or events.

While in Edgartown, stop by Sundog on Main Street or Island Outfitters on Water Street. Sundog carries many lines of fashion including MINE and Barry Bricken. Try a colorful MINE linen button-down shirt ($97) or a cotton one ($85) paired with shorts starting at $59. Kick up your outfit for some of your classier outings with a Barry Bricken Linen Silk Blend Jacket ($235, but guaranteed to stand the test of time).

Then swing by and pick up a Holebrook Sweden sweater at Island Outfitters, the only place in the States where you can find one. While there try on a Reyn Spooner Hawaiian Traditional outfit. Another plus is Spooner Kloth, which provides the cool comfort of cotton with the wrinkle-free properties of polyester. (Yep, unlike linen, you won’t have to iron it.) All clothing articles at Outfitters cost less than $100.

Want to keep your wild side, but still look great? Try one of their fabulous embroidered shorts like their Skull and Crossbones mixed with a polo shirt or short-sleeve button-down shirt. If you are heading out to a fine restaurant, how about one of Island Company’s linen pants and shirts starting at $115. Finish of all these great looks with a pair of Sperry Topsiders, which start at just $50 and are extremely comfortable.

For similar looks at prices that start lower, try Trader Fred’s in Edgartown and Vineyard Haven, or Basics in Oak Bluffs.

Stroll Main Street in Vineyard Haven and stop at Brickman’s or The Green Room. The Green Room is a great spot because they carry the Patagonia line. While there you might pick up a pair of Minnetonka Moccasins for $52, or Vans for $40.

Now gentlemen, while the clothing can make a man, if people can’t get past the hair — all is for naught. At Hair Studio in Vineyard Haven you can get a great styling, including a shampoo and manscaping, for from $15 to $24. For a cut with some manscaping, stop at Island Tresses at the tip of the Triangle in Edgartown for their fabulous $20 summer special: hair cut, and brows, nose and ears cleaned up. If you would like to take it a step further get a Yon Ka Paris Facial at their special price of $65.

Wow! Looking good!
