Painting by Paul Murray
Words and colors
This Sunday, August 2, Treehouse Gallery in North Tisbury (across Up-Island Cronig's) opens a show of paintings by Paul Murray that integrate words and images. "Poetry Painted" is a collection of work in which the shapes of letters combine with textured and layered surfaces to convey the messages represented. Mr. Murray, the son of Treehouse proprietor Ruth Adams, has a background in communications, having worked in advertising and marketing, He has also authored a children's book and written poetry. In 2007, he moved to the Island to manage the gallery for a brief period. Mr. Murray studied art at Swarthmore College and at the Phoebe Flory School of Watercolor Portraiture in Keene, N.H. The opening reception for "Poetry Painted" is Sunday, August 2, from 4 to 7 pm. Call 508-693-6645 for more information.
Cultural festivities
This past Saturday, July 25, Islanders and visitors of all ages attended an afternoon event full of jewelry, wampum, beadwork, and more. The Aquinnah Cultural Center's third annual All-Native Artisans Festival offered art, culture, food, and table displays of merchandise, including twine baskets, bead jewelry, necklaces, earrings, and children's dolls.

Master skills
Davide Fuin will use his skills to create goblets, Veronese vases, and Venetian glassblowing artwork for a unique event on the Vineyard. Martha's Vineyard Glassworks in West Tisbury invites you to Mr. Fuin's exhibition opening and artist reception on Sunday, August 2 from 5 to 7 pm. David Fuin is a master glassblower, whose work has been included in major galleries and museum collections in countries such as Europe, Japan, Saudi Arabia, and Australia. He lives and works in Murano, Italy, and has recently traveled to the Vineyard to exhibit new artwork. His exhibition will be open to the public from August 2 to 21.
