New work at Louisa Gould
Louisa Gould Gallery presents new artwork during an artists' reception on Saturday, August 15. The gallery will be open from 5 to 7 pm, and refreshments as well as live music by guitarist Don Groover will be featured. The reception shows paintings by John Holladay and Maya Farber, sculptures by James Murray, and giclées (fine art prints from a digital source) by Louisa Gould, and will run until Thursday, August 27.

Dragonfly Gallery's recent "Summer Visions" plein air show raised $4,000 for Habitat for Humanity of Martha's Vineyard. The 16 participating artists paid a $25 entry fee as a contribution to the non-profit organization that builds houses for families in need.
Art sale for Habitat
The gardens of Habitat for Humanity's Decorator Show House in Edgartown will be decked out this Friday, August 14, for an art stroll and sale. The public is invited to walk through the gardens to view the display of paintings, prints, and sculptures by Island artists. A portion of the proceeds from each piece that is sold benefits Habitat for Humanity. The sale is from 11 am to 3 pm. The rain date is Saturday, August 15. For more information, call 508-693-5444.
A week of art
Featherstone Center for the Arts in Oak Bluffs hosts several events next week ranging from book making to abstract painting to photography. On Tuesday, August 25 is a book making class with Nancy Blank for adults from 7 to 9 pm for $30. On Wednesday, a printing, stamping, and mixed media workshop with Roberta Gross is from 2 to 5 pm for $50. On Friday, Roberta Gross teaches an abstract expressionism program from 2 to 5 pm, also for $50.
For $30, a flower-arranging workshop with Else Membreno follows on Saturday from 10 am to 12 noon. Roberta Gross teaches tactile art, creative mixed media and texture techniques, also on Saturday, which goes from 2 to 5 pm for $50.
And Featherstone hosts an opening reception for photographer Max Stern on Sunday, August 30 from 4 to 6 pm. The show continues through Sept. 9 from 12 noon to 4 pm daily. To preregister for these events, call 508-693-1850.
