Timeless Ag Fair in its 148th year
Published: August 27, 2009
The 148th Agricultural Society Fair kept its old-time tradition alive with rides and animals, games, food, and music. Record crowds flocked to the West Tisbury fairgrounds from Thursday through Sunday, taking in everything from blue-ribbon produce, prize-winning pets, artwork, and the woodsman contest. It was a step back in time watching the draft horse pull and the skillet-throwing contest, and ribbons were awarded for all sorts of tasty baked goods. Despite the hot, humid weather, people formed long, winding lines through the grounds, waiting for their turn on the Ferris wheel, carousel, Sizzler, Salt-n-Pepper Shaker, and Octopus. As always, fairgoers filled up and cooled off at the variety of food stands, which offered barbecued food, smoothies, pizza, desserts, and more.
