John Alaimo and Mike Tinus:

Rarely are sound and setting such a fine match. It's even more rare that two players meld like this jazz duo featuring electric piano and upright bass. Classic tunes waft to the foreground with understated, dazzling musicianship. Chew with your mouth closed. Friday and Saturday nights at Atria's Brick Cellar Bar in Edgartown.

Emeen Z:

Wispy lead singer Emeen Zarookian leads 60s psych revivalists out of Boston, taking cues from The Kinks and The Zombies. Wiry guitar trinkets, loopy bass lines, and fast-hitting hooks will rattle your brain. Friday night at Che's Lounge in Vineyard Haven.

Leo Kottke, Martha's VineyardLeo Kottke

Leo Kottke:

Kottke's lyrical guitar work is ornate and galloping, blooming with natural beauty. He funnels many genres - blues, folk, classical - into his own virtuosic vision. Saturday night at Nectar's by the airport.

Old Silver Band:

West Falmouth three-piece inhabits heady realm between bluegrass, reggae, and adult contemporary rock. Dual vocals, acoustic skanks, searing mandolin solos. After a few years on the college and festival circuits, they've collected a faithful fan base that appreciates their exuberant performances - and hairdos. Friday night at The Wharf in Edgartown.

Entrain:

Mission overpowers music. More concerned with spreading peace then coherent songwriting, this drum-laden jam band uses global sounds to hammer out powerful, rhythmic messages. Friday night at Nectar's by the airport.
