During Grand Illumination Night on Wednesday, August 19, the Campground gingerbread cottages were festooned with paper lanterns, which at a signal were simultaneously lit. It is one of the Island's favorite annual events, which includes an old fashioned sing-a-long in the Tabernacle led by Bob Cleasby. People clustered on porches, benches, and lawns and crowded the walkways to take in the spectacle.

The annual Oak Bluffs Fireman's Association Fireworks attracted large crowds on Friday, August 21. Many set up blankets in Ocean Park to watch the explosions of light and to enjoy the Vineyard Haven Band performance in the gazebo.
