Island restaurants know how to treat the locals. As soon as September rolls around and summer visitors have left, dining deals pop up all around. Here are some available now.

Island "Happy Hours"

Since 1984, Massachusetts state law has forbidden happy hours. However, two Island establishments have come up with their own versions.

Lookout Tavern celebrates Happy Hour Monday through Friday: half-price appetizers, $1 oysters and shrimp, and $.75 littlenecks, with the purchase of one alcoholic drink.

At The Wharf's daily happy hour, Chicken wings are 50 percent off from 3 to 6 pm.

David Ryan's in Edgartown offers $.25 wings Monday through Friday from 4 to 6 pm, and draft beer specials for $2.50.

And at Sharky's in Edgartown from 11 am to 2 pm on Sundays, enjoy build-your-own breakfast burritos and a Bloody Mary bar with 75 items to choose from. Choose among eggs, cheese, salsa, steak, sausage, bacon, chorizo, and more for your burrito. Make your own Bloody Mary concoction with blue cheese stuffed olives, shrimp, salami, cheese, pickled okra, and much more. Breakfast burritos are free this Sunday, Sept. 20, while supplies last, and Bloody Mary's are $5 plus the cost of a shot of vodka of your choice.

Lure Grill, Martha's VineyardLure Grill in Edgartown, located at the Winnetu Oceanside Resort, recently began their fall special: Islanders stay for free if they buy a full dinner.

Dinner deals

In addition to their popcorn machine, Seasons Eatery and Pub in Oak Bluffs celebrates the return of Tuesday Burger Night (1/2 pounder with cheese for $5 with the purchase of one alcoholic beverage), Wednesday Pasta Night (all pasta dishes are $12.95 and includes salad and garlic sticks), and Thursday Prime Rib Night ($15.95 includes salad, potato, and vegetable).

The Beach Plum Inn in Chilmark announces their biannual Bistro Night. Every Thursday, enjoy a three-course prix fixe dinner for $48. Or, try the Chef's Local Fall Harvest Special for $29 nightly.

Lambert's Cove Inn in West Tisbury also offers a three-course prix fixe bistro menu nightly, from 5:30 to 6:30 pm. They're open Tuesday through Sunday.

Also offering a prix fixe special is The Grill on Main in Edgartown, open every night, where chef Tony Saccoccia offers a three-course dinner for $38.

From 5 to 7 pm Sundays through Thursdays, sit at the bar at Mediterranean in Oak Bluffs and feast on $2 tapas.

The Island Bar and Grill (formerly The Island House) in Oak Bluffs offers a $14.95 lobster dinner special nightly.

And there's more besides dinner. Slice of Life in Oak Bluffs recently began Breakfast Specials on the Go that are specifically for take-out. For $6, get a breakfast sandwich and large coffee. For $8, enjoy pancakes or a breakfast burrito and a large coffee. Slice is open daily.
