Island schools take to the stage
'Tis the season for children's theater. Last week, Edgartown School students performed their fall musical, "The Wizard of Oz." More than 25 students in grades five through eight participated in the play, along with faculty guest performances.

Photos by Ralph Stewart This weekend, the Oak Bluffs School presents "Aladdin," and the Vineyard Playhouse's Fourth Grade Theater Project begins with Edgartown School students.
Among the 40 students involved is Sam Permar who plays Aladdin this weekend at the Oak Bluffs School, with Sarah Dawson as Jasmine and Oliver Carson as the Genie, in three performances: Friday and Saturday, Nov. 13 and 14, at 7:30 pm, and Sunday, Nov. 15, at 2 pm. Admission is $7; $5 for children, and $25 for families.
In its 16th year, the Vineyard Playhouse's Fourth Grade Theater Project begins performances this Saturday, with Edgartown School children actors Ewellen Carlos, Samantha Cassidy, Julia Crocker, Megan Donovan, Kelsey Fiske, Curtis Fournier, Rebeca Lima, Audrey McCarron, John Murray, and Christopher Patnaude. The plays are "Derby Drama" by Ms. Herr's class, and "Cave Critters" by Ms. Mello's class. Performances are at 2 and 7 pm on Nov. 14, at the Vineyard Playhouse. Admission is $6; $4 for children.
