The unseasonably warm weather continues, as does the wind farm debate and swine flu anxiety. Maybe with global warming, this weather is not unseasonably warm, maybe it's just now the way it is. Which might be okay because I do not like seeing mosquitoes in November, but I do like not having to wear a hat and gloves. I guess I can be flexible on my weather expectations if I have to be. I'm trying not to be too anxious about the swine flu. I have not heard of any cases in Aquinnah yet and certainly everyone's awareness of it is so heightened that hopefully contagion will be limited. Just remember: when you cough, sneeze into your sleeve; wash your hands a lot; and when in doubt call your doctor and stay home and watch TV. As for the wind farm debate, I'm still a little confused.

A very happy birthday to Doris Hamel who turns 90 on December 1. Friends are encouraged to send cards, memories, and pictures to her before her birthday. Doris has lived at 49 Lighthouse Road for more than 40 years and loved every minute.

Thanksgiving weekend will be the last weekend the shops at the Cliffs are open so get a jump on your holiday shopping and head up there.

Looking for something to do Thanksgiving weekend and tired of hanging out with just your family? Come to the Martha's Vineyard Film Festival's "Family. Film. Feast." Mingle with others on Saturday, Nov. 28, at 5 pm at the Chilmark Community Center. There will be musicians, food by Island chef Robert Lionette, and a movie for the whole family. Dinner is $10 adults; $5 for kids; the film is $7. There will be two other events: Saturday, Dec. 26, and Saturday, Jan. 30.

Hospice of Martha's Vineyard seeks donations of baked goods (individually wrapped) and handmade gifts including jewelry, needlepoint, knits, photographs, Christmas ornaments, etc. for their benefit event, Handmade from the Heart, at the Dr. Daniel Fisher House on Saturday, Dec. 12, in Edgartown. I know we have so many talented craftspeople in Aquinnah and people who have benefited from Hospice care so I thought I would pass this along. You can call 508-693-0189 to arrange a pickup or drop-off of items.

The library resumes its role as community gathering place. Every time I go I see more and more people settling into the "new" space.

It looks like the scalloping season is going to be iffy this year in Aquinnah. There doesn't seem to be much going on in those beds.

If you are thinking about going for a walk in the woods, don't. Bow hunting season is still on and the guns come out on November 21.

When you are done reading this, wash your hands.
