Town Column : Oak Bluffs

The town workers are already busy erecting the Christmas decorations around town with the David Healey Mall well decorated with wreaths and bows. Christmas lights are being hung, so when the season starts Oak Bluffs will be glowing with lights and greenery.
How many of you remember when the Martha's Vineyard National Bank was in the former Rego Building on Circuit Avenue (which is now where Sanctuary and other stores are)? If so, you must remember the ever so helpful teller Marion Morton who was there for so many years. Well, she celebrated her 100th birthday on November 17. She is now living comfortably at the Henrietta Brewer House in Vineyard Haven, and we send special birthday smiles over the bridge to her.
Featherstone Center for the Arts' seventh annual Holiday Gift Show features artwork from dozens of Vineyard artists priced from $5 to $250. The Preview Party will be on Friday, Nov. 20, from 7 to 9 pm and holiday refreshments will be served. The Gift Show continues from November 21 through December 20 with daily hours from 12 noon to 4 pm except for Thanksgiving Day when the shop will be closed. Some popular items include artwork, pottery, jewelry, porcelain ornaments, walking sticks, fleece wear, scarves and accessories, soaps, calendars, and chocolate. Oak Bluffs artists include: ceramics from Nancy Blank, photographs from Judy Williamson, and cards from Joyce Dresser, to name a few.
Oak Bluffs School student trick-or-treaters collected $514.42 for UNICEF last week. This donation, which follows a tradition of contributions made every Halloween season by Oak Bluffs students, goes to help children across the globe.
The Annual Holiday Fair hosted by the United Methodist Church takes place on Saturday, Nov. 21, from 9 am to 3 pm at the parish house in the Campground. Among the many offerings are crafts, gifts, jewelry, baked goods, knitted items, and Christmas decorations. Also, there will be a café luncheon at the Parish House.
Come attend the 25th anniversary celebration of the Martha's Vineyard Center for Dispute Resolution today at 1 pm at the Dukes County Courthouse in Edgartown. The center's founders, the late Honorable Herbert Tucker, Jr. and former Clerk Magistrate Thomas Teller will be honored.
The Oak Bluffs Public Library will be closed on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 26 and 27, in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. The library will be open for regular hours on Saturday, Nov. 28.
I'm giving you a reminder about the Oak Bluffs School Holiday Bazaar. It will be held Sunday, Nov. 22, from 10 am to 4 pm and Santa will make an appearance. Any interested venders can call Penni Amaral at 508-696-9545.
