Happy Thanksgiving to one and all.

We had enough people at the town meeting last Tuesday for a quorum. Well, we got through half of the agenda and then some people left and then we had to adjourn before we finished. But we did get through a lot of stuff. It looks like the town hall is going to get some renovations and the wind regulations passed.

I also got caught up with some of my fellow townspeople: Peter and Teresa have dealt with their empty nest (the twins are off at their first year of college) by getting a puppy. A pure-bred golden retriever who has already won a ribbon at a dog show. The girls will be home for Thanksgiving. Julie Vanderhoop and her kids will be at Julie's mom's house for Thanksgiving along with many others. Richard and Joanie both looked very handsome and are still holding their salon on Sunday afternoons from 2 to 5 pm. Nonie Madison just returned from a four-day trip to New York City sans kids (I'm so jealous!). Nancy Benoit gave me a correction. I misspelled her daughter's name in a previous column. Laina is her name, and she was a monkey for Halloween not a mouse. My apologies. Laina and Noah Manning played in the back of the room during the town meeting and it was nice to address our business to the pitter patter of little feet and high voices. It made things a little less serious.

There are a lot of events happening this weekend if you're feeling a little pent up. Shakespeare for the Masses is performing a free reading of "Merchant of Venice" at the Vineyard Playhouse on Friday and Saturday, 7 pm.

The Capawock is showing "The Wizard of Oz" at 2 pm on Friday. Admission is one can of non-perishable food for the Island Food Pantry.

The Martha's Vineyard Film Festival's "Family. Fun. Feast." is Saturday night at 5 pm at the Chilmark Community Center. Visit tmvff.org for all the details.

There is a lot of yoga and a 5K race happening to work off all that pie and stuffing. The 5K for KJ race happens on Saturday at 11 am. Registration is from 8:30 to 10:30 am at the MVRHS gym and the proceeds go to the scholarship fund in honor of Kevin Johnson.

I know a lot of Aquinnah ladies frequent Sherri Sidoti's yoga classes and she has classes all weekend long including a 10 am class on Thanksgiving Day and a free Life Bliss Meditation class on Sunday at 5 pm. Visit flyyogamv.com for all the details. The Yoga Barn will be closed on Thanksgiving Day but will have its regular schedule over the weekend. Call 508-645-YOGA for updated information.

I have been writing this column for a year now and I want to thank everyone for sending me news, sharing stories, putting up with my musings and complaints, and giving me corrections when needed. I am grateful to live in such a beautiful place surrounded by wonderful, interesting, and supportive people. I hope everyone enjoys the holiday and finds something to be grateful for and if you don't or can't, remember it's just one day and it'll all be over tomorrow.
