Music : MV Chamber Music Society in concert for Thanksgiving
The Martha's Vineyard Chamber Music Society continues a popular holiday tradition this Saturday, Nov. 28, presenting its annual Thanksgiving weekend concert at 7:30 pm at the Old Whaling Church in Edgartown.
Pianist Delores Stevens, the music society's artistic director, has invited three notable artists to join her in a concert program that will feature two great quartets from the classical repertoire: Beethoven's "Piano Quartet," "Opus 16," and Faure's "Piano Quartet in C Minor."
Violinist Stephanie Chase has toured extensively around the world since making her debut with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra at age eight. A top medalist of the International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow and a recipient of the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant, she has been praised by the Boston Globe for her "elegance, dexterity, rhythmic vitality and great imagination."
Cellist Scott Kluksdahl, another celebrated international performer, is a long-time favorite with Vineyard chamber music society audiences. He has been the guest soloist with Bulgaria's Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra and Colombia's Orchestra Filarmonica de Bogota. He has received the Tanglewood Music Center's Leonard Bernstein Fellowship and prizes in the 1990 Walter W. Naumburg International Cello Competition and the Washington International Competition. He serves on the faculties the University of South Florida, Vermont's Killington Music Festival, and California Summer Music.
Violist Scott Woolweaver has performed with the Island music society since 1999. He is Artist Associate at Williams College, a member of the Chameleon Arts Ensemble of Boston, and a lecturer on viola and chamber music at Tufts University. He performs frequently on Cape Cod, in California, Vermont, and Maine, where he is director of the Adult Chamber Music Institute.
