The Gay Head Community Baptist Church - the oldest continuously operating Native American church in the country - had a benefit square dance last Saturday night. Caller Don Beck kept dancers moving to the sounds of The Flying Elbows, and the Black Brook Singers taught the crowd a few Native American dances.

According to Mike Gilman, approximately $1,000 was raised to benefit the restoration and preservation of the 152-year-old church. "The event was a huge success and both those dancing and those performing made a point of letting the organizers of the event know that they hoped we were planning similar fundraisers in the future," Mr. Gilman said in an email. "We are...as early as sometime this mid-summer."

Donations may still be sent to the church at P.O. Box 151, Aquinnah, MA.
