At the Alexandra M. Gagnon Foundation's Seventh Grade Girls Day, held at the Vineyard Tennis Center Workout and Spa last Saturday, 40 girls from across the Island enjoyed a free afternoon of health and fitness, sponsored by the foundation.
The girls tried out several classes throughout the building. Fitness director Phyllis Kugler offered a class in bicycle spinning, professional trainer Cathy Ashmun led trials on cardiovascular and strength machines, and Mary Kay cosmetics representative Janine Milakeve offered tips on skin care and makeup.
The girls were also treated to massages with certified massage therapists Kris Martin and Lily Morris, and volunteer Patty French helped the girls prepare roll-up sandwiches in the kitchen.
The Alexandra M. Gagnon Foundation was created in 1998 after Alexandra Gagnon, a summer resident, died at 23 after struggling with drug addiction. The foundation supports the treatment and prevention of substance abuse.
