Obituary : Eleanor T. Norris

Eleanor T. Norris, 87, of Marlboro Beach, Maine, died on September 3. She was born April 5, 1921, on the Vineyard, the daughter of Austin and Helen Tower.

She graduated from New England Music Conservatory of Rhode Island. Eleanor taught music to many students and grammar school in Ellsworth and Lamoine, Maine, and also in Japan and Korea. She attended the First Congregational Church of Ellsworth and played the organ for many years in Union Congregational Church of Ellsworth Falls and the Family Bible Church in Ellsworth. She was a member of the Lamoine Grange and active in the Lamoine Historical Society.

Eleanor is survived by sons James Norris and wife, Cynthia, Barry Norris and wife, Susan, both of Lamoine, Peter Norris and wife, Robin, of New Hampshire, Kevin Norris and wife, Virginia, of Florida, and Jeff Norris and wife, Pam, of Connecticut; 14 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, James E. Norris Sr.; a sister, Marion Wiseman; and brothers Alden and Osborne Tower.

Calling hours were held from 4 to 6 pm on Thursday, Sept. 11, at Jordan-Fernald in Ellsworth. A funeral was held at 10 am on Friday, Sept. 12, and was officiated by Pastor Richard Rockwell. Interment was at Forest Hill Cemetery in Lamoine. Contributions in Eleanor's memory may be made to Lamoine Historical Society, 606 Douglas Highway, Lamoine, ME 04605.
