Obituary : Betty L. Quinn
Betty Louise Quinn of Punta Gorda, Fla., and Exeter, N.H., died on Monday, Oct. 20 in Exeter. She was 70 years old. Betty joins her husband Robert F. (Bob) Quinn who died in September.
Born Betty Louise Robinson on January 19, 1938, in Shively, Ken., she was the third child of Onslow and Edna Robinson of Chilmark. When the family returned to Chilmark in 1947, Betty attended school in Chilmark and at Tisbury High School.
Betty was first employed by New England Telephone and was one of the last manual telephone operators on Martha's Vineyard. She loved the quiet beauty of the Island and raised her family in Vineyard Haven. She was an active member of the Island community and served many roles with the Island VFW ladies auxiliary.
Betty moved to Dover, N.H., after marrying Bob Quinn in 1991. They built their dream house there and Betty worked in the Tax Assessor's office in Exeter. After retiring in 2000, Betty and Bob split their time between New Hampshire and Punta Gorda, Florida.
Betty loved the beauty of New England and the traditions of family. She was a student of her genealogy who loved to tell stories of relatives and their places in local history. Her children's homes are adorned with the beautiful crafts that Betty created. Her easy smile and her wit and charm will be deeply missed.
Surviving are her brothers Norman and Dale Robinson; daughters Jeanne Alwardt and her husband Herman of Raymond, New Hampshire; Paula Bliss and Joseph Triskett of Falmouth, Massachusetts; Kitty Victoria of Austin, Texas; and son Raymond Morris and his wife Jennifer of Omaha, Nebraska. She leaves nine grandchildren; Bryan Alwardt, Joy Gallant and her husband DJ, Amy Alwardt Gaddi and her husband Joe, Dane Bliss and his wife Jennifer, Emily Bliss, Nicholas Victoria, Krystofer Victoria, Allison Morris, and Andrea Morris. She also leaves four great-grandchildren; Jordan Alwardt, Derrick Gaddi, Aidan Gallant, and Jake Bliss, many nieces and nephews, and four step-children. A brother Albert predeceased her.
Memorial services were held at the Chapman, Cole, and Gleason funeral home in Oak Bluffs at 1 pm on Friday, Oct. 24.
