Obituary : Willard P. Schneible

Willard P. Schneible, 87 years old, died on November 30 at Martha's Vineyard Hospital. He had been a resident of Windemere for the past three years.

Willard was born and lived in Rome, N.Y., until 1992 when he retired to Niceville, Fla. He earned an engineering degree from Carnegie-Mellon University and a graduate degree in business administration from Tulane University.

He entered the Navy in World War II as a lieutenant and fought in both the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters as an LST Commander. After the war, he returned to Rome where he worked for Rome Cable Corp. for 37 years. He held many positions, the last being Director of Manufacturing and Engineering.

He was member of Teugega Country Club, The Rome Club, Rome Yacht Club, The Society for Advancement of Management, and The Elks Club. He served on the boards of The Rome Hospital, Rome City Laboratory, Mohawk Valley Sheltered Workshop Mohawk Valley Community College, and The United Way.

Willard was predeceased by his wife, Florence Dunn Schneible and is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Geoffrey Banfield of Martha's Vineyard; his grandson and wife, Duncan and Kelsey Banfield of New York City; his great granddaughter, Daphne Banfield; his sister, Gretchen Bacon of Old Saybrook, Conn., and many nephews and nieces. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
