Obituary : Paul Benedict
Paul Benedict, 70 years old, was found dead in his Aquinnah home on Tuesday, Dec. 2.
Mr. Benedict, famous for his role of Harry Bentley on "The Jeffersons," began his acting career at the Theatre Company of Boston. He is known for his work in "The Goodbye Girl" (1977), "The Man with Two Brains" (1983) and "The Addams Family" (1991). He also appeared in the Christopher Guest comedies "This Is Spinal Tap" (1984), "Waiting for Guffman" (1997), "A Mighty Wind" (2003), and on the PBS children's show "Sesame Street."
The popular actor was the youngest of six children, whose father was a doctor and mother was a journalist. He was born Sept. 17, 1938, in Silver City, N.M., grew up in Boston, and attended Suffolk University.
Mr. Benedict was an honorary board member and regular and much revered participant in staged readings at the Vineyard Playhouse. On January 17, at 4 pm there will be celebration of his life at the Playhouse. A potluck will follow at a location to be announced.
